Kinja'd!!!

I hate my HOA.

I get a fine last week for $200 for unpainted utility cords. The only utility cords I have had outside have been to power my xmas lights.

Worse, they are supposed to send me a 30 day notice. I never got one. THEN, They fine me $50 on 12/10. On 12/17 I get another $50 fine plus $100 late fee for not paying the $50 they "charged" me 7 days prior (by laws say 30 days)

The notice (the first I have seen or heard of this) was printed on 1/2/14.

I received it 1/17 and immediately called their office. I was transferred to a voice mail and left a message. Friday passed (they are closed on weekends), Monday passed, Now we are half way through Tuesday and still no phone call. So I called again, and boom, voice mail.

Starting to get really pissed of with these 'people'.

/Rant. have a Series 1.

I despise HOAs.

"We're here to keep up community standards."

No. No you are not. You are retired and have nothing else to do but complain about my grass being 1/8" too tall.

What if you didn't pay and told them to go screw? I have no idea how HOAs work.

Dude its so bad its not even funny. I have a nice house that I got a KILLER deal on. Good neighbors, etc. etc. I had never had an HOA before now, and I am continually wanting to move out solely because of the HOA. I have had to fight violations I received for things like "unregistered trailer on property" except it wasn't my trailer, nor was it on my property, in front of my property, or even on my street.

Almost all of the decent neighborhoods here have an HOA just like that. If it weren't so convenient being close to everything, I'd move back outside the city. I hate not being able to fire up the bike or quads after dark. Heaven forbid someone not be able to sleep at 7:00pm.

They have WAY too much power.

If I don't pay they can continue to compile the fines and once they reach a certain point they can foreclose on my house.

Reasons why I am saving for an acre of land outside of the HOA. It's just not worth dealing with their idiocy.

Beyond.

The only reason I bought this house was because I got an insane deal on it. I could now sell it for double what I paid, which I have contemplated to get away from this HOA, but I would much rather my current path of using the $ I have to start my own business and deal with the HOA for a few more years.

They can't foreclose on your house, they can place a lien on it, though.

Fucking HOA busybodies ... If there was anyone ever who should die in a fire ...

I'd launch a campaign of civil disobedience. Doing things I know would piss them off but are just inside the rules enough to not punish and things that would piss them off but they couldn't pin on me.

It is actually written into my bylaws that they can foreclose on it.

Granted the process is lengthy and complicated.

I don't know who gave all the people with sticks up their asses power, but I loathe these people more than corrupt politicians, thieves and rapists. At least thieves and rapists know they are scum.

HOA's are really retarded. They are worse than property tax. And I hate property tax with a passion.

I did something like this once. They were bugging me about a "dead bush" in my front yard that never existed (and they had no proof that they could provide Me "send me the documents saying that this type of bush was in this location". them "Those documents are private sir, I can not show you". Me"It's MY property!")

Anyways, after they harassed me for about 3 weeks I took a walk along the common area (sidewalks and parks they maintain) and took pictures of over 100 dead bushes. I sent them an email saying "Ill replace my dead bush after you replace yours" with all the dated pictures attached. Never heard back on the issue again.

I would rather pay double my tax rate than deal with an HOA. And yes, any lawyers or politicians reading this, I WILL stand by that. Get me out from control of my shit ass HOA and I will pay double my tax rate (which would cost me roughly 3x more per year than paying the HOA)

Or so they say. That crap started way back when America was in need for serious help and it shouldn't have been passed way back then. Basically the government said "Hey citizens, here's a great idea. I will give you a deed to your property that you can keep as long as you pay me. Sounds great right?" I think the Mob also says something like that to new business owners. Also, Mob and Government are now interchangeable words in the thesaurus. I decree this to be so.

Hopefully I can 'show' them the errors they have made, and they make a logical decision and remove the fine. Otherwise, Yes, I will be paying in pennies.

So far, the only time I have been able to reason with them was when they tried to fine me for "painting my garage doors a non-approved color". Problem being, my house was the demo unit they built. I told them if the doors are the wrong color then they are the ones who painted them the wrong color and they need to fix it. The color wasn't wrong, they are just money hungry, and it was "oh we apologize for the mix up, looks like they surveyor wrote the wrong house number down."

LMAO. Just got off the phone with them. Apparently they changed the fine structure for 2014. It was in the updated regulation book, which I received, but did not read because it is almost 500 pages long. so my $200 fine is not actually $200. It was $200 on 1/2/14, even though I just got the letter on 1/17/14, had I immediately paid the $200, I would have still been short $100 on the fine... ($50 / wk)

After going through three bitchy ass women, I finally got to a manger who had half a brain. I informed her I never received the notice, she managed to verify this as I was apparently sent a request for hearing via certified mail, which returned undeliverable, unknown.

Now I have to go through an appeals process, and wait 45 days for the committee to review my appeal (after fixing the violation), meanwhile, allowing the fines to collect, in hopes the committee will take pity on the fact that I did not receive the letters and upon my finding out, fixed the issue at hand, clearing me of all fines, otherwise, I am stuck paying the however many thousands of dollars the fee rakes up while waiting for their review.
